Why Should You Care How Your Feed is Made?

Most farmers ask “what's in the feed?” That is a good question. But the better question is: “How consistently can you make the same quality bag - every time, all year round?”

Anyone can make one good batch. Consistency - the same quality in January and in June, in the first bag and the fiftieth - that requires a documented process. A trained team. And an independent body checking your work.

That is what ISO 9001:2015 certification means at Fortune. Every step below is part of a system audited and certified by MQA Certification Services - a UK-accredited body. Not our own checklist. An external standard.

Step by Step - From Raw Material to Sealed Bag

01/ 07

Raw Material Reception and Testing

Every ingredient arrives at our factory and gets checked before it enters production. No raw material is accepted without passing our intake test.

Rejected material never enters production. This is the first line of defence - before manufacturing even starts.

Grain Storage in 6 Dedicated Godowns

Accepted grain goes into one of our 6 dedicated godowns - not an open shed, not a shared space.

Why does this matter? Grain stored in the open picks up moisture. Moisture causes fungal growth. Fungal growth produces the same aflatoxin that is in 56% of Haryana's feed samples. Our godowns control temperature, moisture, and air circulation - keeping maize in Grade A condition from purchase to milling.

This is where clean feed actually begins. Not in the lab. In the godown.

Cleaning and Grading

Before grinding, raw grain passes through a cleaning process that removes foreign material - stones, dust, husk, anything that should not be there.

Why this matters: properly cleaned grain grinds uniformly. Uniform grinding means consistent pellet density. Consistent density means your birds get the same nutrition in every bite - not variable amounts depending on which part of the batch they eat.

Grinding

Clean grain is ground to the exact particle size required for each feed phase.

This is more technical than it sounds. Too coarse - nutrients are poorly absorbed by the bird's gut. Too fine - feed passes through too quickly and nutrient absorption drops. The right particle size for each phase - Pre-Starter, Starter, Finisher - is specified in our ISO-documented formula. It does not change batch to batch.

Precision Batching and Mixing

This is the most critical step in the entire process. Every ingredient is weighed and added in exact proportions according to the formula for that specific feed type and phase.

Every gram is measured. Every batch is the same formula. ISO 9001:2015 requires it - and we verify it.

High-Temperature Conditioning at 98°C Steam

The mixed batch goes through a steam conditioning process at 98°C. This single step does three important things:

  • Kills harmful bacteria - pathogen elimination before the feed reaches your birds
  • Improves starch digestion - gelatinisation makes nutrients more available to the bird's gut
  • Better pellet binding - fewer broken pellets, less feed dust, less waste on your farm floor

98°C is a precise number. Not “hot steam.” Not “high heat.” 98°C - documented and verified in our process.

Pelleting → Cooling → Lab Testing → Packaging

The final four steps happen in sequence:

  • Pelleting - conditioned mix is pressed through a die to form uniform pellets
  • Cooling - pellets are cooled to ambient temperature before packaging (hot pellets trap moisture and cause mould)
  • Lab Test - this is the final checkpoint. Nutrition value AND safety levels are both tested on the finished batch. If the batch fails - it does not leave the factory. No exceptions.
  • Packaging - passed batches go into 50KG or 60KG moisture-resistant bags, sealed and ready for delivery or pickup

EC Facility

The Facility That Most Mills Cannot Match

Haryana temperatures swing from 5°C to 48°C. Heat stress is one of the leading causes of poor bird performance in the state - and most local mills operate in open environments exposed to this. Fortune's EC shed runs three systems simultaneously:

Keeps ammonia below 25 ppm - healthy respiratory environment

Optimises bird behaviour and growth patterns

Every bird produced at Fortune - Day Old Chick, Broiler Bird, Breeder - has never experienced heat stress from Day 1. That is a genuine biological advantage that shows up in FCR and market weight.

02What temperature is used in Fortune's conditioning step?+

Fortune uses 98°C steam conditioning. This kills harmful bacteria, improves starch gelatinisation for better nutrient absorption, and enhances pellet binding - reducing feed dust and waste at the farm level.

03Why does grain storage matter for feed safety?+

Grain stored in open conditions picks up moisture, which causes fungal growth and aflatoxin production. 04What enzymes are used in Fortune feed?+

Fortune includes Phytase and Protease enzymes in its formulations. Phytase releases phosphorus from plant-based ingredients for better absorption. Protease improves protein digestion. Both enzymes also reduce ammonia production in the shed - keeping the bird environment healthier.
